Abstract
The discussion in this article represents a summary of research findings concerning the Swedish‐speaking minority in Finland. Five different parliamentary elections have been studied in ecological analyses, the elections of 1907, 1945, 1962, 1970, and 1979, all characterised by a high voter turnout. The ecological units are the bilingual and unilingual Swedish communes along the Finnish coast. Three types of aggregative variables are made operational. They are politics, culture (language), and social structure. Keywords
