Abstract
A novel passive waveshaping method for single-phase diode rectifiers is presented. It is shown that application of the proposed method maintains high-input power factor, lowers rectifier current stresses, and lowers the volt-ampere (VA) rating of the associated reactive components as compared to the standard diode rectifier. Relevant input and output current waveforms, component ratings, and power factor values are derived. Different modes of operation are discussed as a means of obtaining high performance. Key predictions, such as input/output waveforms and associated harmonic spectra, have been verified experimentally on a 1 kVA laboratory prototype unit.<>Keywords
