Nanoscale Electrical Properties of Molecular Films in the Vicinity of Platinum Ultrathin Film Electrode

Abstract
Structures and electrical properties of oligothiophene molecular films were investigated using Kelvin-probe force microscopy. In particular, the surface potential of the monolayer films in the vicinity of the ultrathin Pt electrode and the monolayer connected to both electrodes with a bias voltage were studied. In addition, bottom-contact-type field effect transistors (FETs) using the thiophene monolayers as gate channels were fabricated. Carrier transport in the organic layer of the FET was investigated on a nanometer scale by surface potential mapping.
