Abstract
Approximately 70 outpatients were surveyed for antibody to Toxocara; none was a clinical case of toxocariasis. Two children has sera strongly positive to Toxocara antigen by the in vitro larval precipitate test, histories of dirt-eating, negative stools, and no recent (within 12 mos.) history of helminth infection. Negative serology was obtained in 2 patients with trichuriasis, 3 with a recent history of ascariasis, and 1 with a recent history of cutaneous larva migrans. One patient with ascariasis had positive serology. The above 6 patients had normal eosinophil counts (5% or less). Pet dogs or cats were reported for 26 children, dirt-eating for 8, and above normal eosinophil counts for 22.Keywords
