Abstract
The strength of connective tissue ground substance was gauged by the extent of diffusion of intradermally injd. spreading factors and saline in rats and guinea pigs. Rutin and esculin exerted stabilizing effects, hesperedin methyl chalcone and d-epicatechol were ineffective. The feeding of antivitamin-P factor reduced the stability of ground substance and this could partly be offset by esculin. The findings suggest that vit. P increases capillary resistance by stabilizing the pericapillary sheath which is formed by a condensation of connective tissue. The role of ground substance in disease and the possible significance of vit. P are discussed. Keywords
