PLACE OF RENIN FORMATION IN RABBIT UTERUS

Abstract
Castration of rabbits is followed by decrease in uterine renin. After 6 hours' treatment of castrated animals with estradiol the renin concentration shows a remarkable rise which is more pronounced in the endometrium than in the myometrium. The increase is higher if the rabbits have been laparotomized 24 hours before the oestrogen treatment. This potentiation is due to addition of two different stimulations: oestrogen treatment and laparotomy. In castrated animals which are laparotomized, but not treated with oestrogen, there is only an increase of the endometrial, but not of the myometrial renin. The effect of laparotomy comes to an end in less than 4 days. Extraordinary high increase in endometrial renin is found in two of four nephrectomized rabbits.
