Femtosecond pulse breakup in a semiconductor amplifier

Abstract
The linear propagation of ultrashort optical pulses in semiconductor gain media is investigated. It is shown that a pulse with a central frequency at the transparency point experiences a propagation-induced temporal breakup that is due to the carrier-induced refractive-index characteristics.Keywords
