Abstract
Finite-length constraints are applied to the feedforward, feedback, and transmit filters for a minimum-mean-square-error decision-feedback equalizer (MMSE-DFE), and the structure and performance of the finite-length MMSE-DFE are derived using a combination of estimation-theoretic and information-theoretic principles. The theory of finite-length MMSE-DFE that is derived parallels and extends results that were previously known only in the infinite-length case. Canonical finite-length transmitter/receiver combinations for the combination of equalization and coding are thereby established. Keywords
