Abstract
A Glauber-type eikonal approximation with the classical trajectories taken as two intersecting straight-line segments (called "angle" trajectories) is examined and applied to the and excitation of hydrogen atoms by electron impact. The calculated differential and total excitation cross sections are compared with experimentally measured and "straight-line" Glauber-eikonal cross sections. The angle approximation does provide a significant improvement over the straight-line approximation for the differential cross section at angles >40°.
