Abstract
The problem of changing definitions of rural and urban populations is examined using official data for Canada. Two counts of rural and urban populations for 1976 are available. One uses 1976 areas and definitions, and the other applies 1981 parameters to the 1976 data. "The purpose of this article is to establish in some detail both the nature and sources of the differences in rates of rural-versus-urban growth between the two data sets available for the period 1976-81."Keywords
