Abstract
This article deals with the ecology of the Haven Hill Tract located near Highland, Michigan not far from Detroit. A brief discussion is given of the topography of the area as it exists today as a result of the Wisconsin Glaciation. Examples of all of the common forest communities that occur in Southern Michigan are found here such as: beech-maple, swamp, oak-hickory forest, tamarack and black spruce bog and white cedar swamp. Each of these communities is discussed in detail giving the names of the principal characteristic species as well as some of the rarer and more interesting spp. Meadow and aquatic communities are also treated. A vegetation map shows the distr. of the various communities in the northern portion of the tract which includes most of the forested areas. A unique Ecology Trail has been developed in this area by the Michigan Botanical Club with the cooperation of the Michigan Department of Conservation. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
