Piezobirefringence in diamond

Abstract
From piezobirefringence measurements in diamond we have determined the elasto-optical constants and in the region between 2500 and 7000 Å. The experimental results are in good agreement with theoretícal calculations of the contribution to birefringence due to the lowest direct gap .
