Abstract
Based on a study of patients'' progress toward health, a new method is described for evaluating public health services. The study population consisted of 410 patients in 270 families. Evidence of service effectiveness is indicated by the scope of public health nursing assessments of patients'' needs (4578), the number (1018) of nursing needs eliminated or adequately met by the family, and the proportion (90[degree]/o) of suspected illnesses or abnormalities brought to medical attention within the 3-month study period. Keywords
