Abstract
Joint Planning Advisory Committee (J. P. A.C.) was established to develop specialty manpower quotas as a means of resolving the recurrent imbalance between numbers of consultant vacancies and numbers in higher specialist training. A panel was set up to prepare evidence for J.P. A.C. on the current manpower situation in rheumatology. This paper summarizes the information submitted in evidence, and indicates how such data are likely to be applied.
