Abstract
Neutron energy response of a BF3 counter using paraffin moderator was obtained in the energy range from 2 eV to 1 KeV. Neutron energy was determined by the time-of-flight method. The counter was covered with a cadmium sheath to eliminate the thermal neutron diffusing from the moderator. The results with BF3 counters with thinner moderator were consistent with Fräki's calculation while those with thicker moderator were not. This inconsistence may be due to the fact that the mean energy of neutrons passing through cadmium sheath decreases in the case of thicker moderator and that the counting efficiency of the counter varies according to the 1/v law of the 10B(n, α) reaction. Keywords
