Abstract
Luteinizing hormone preparations of non-primate (sheep and horse) as well as of primate origin (human pituitary and placental) were found to stimulate the interstitial cells of Leydig in hypophysectomized male rhesus monkeys. Although quantitative differences in the efficacy of the various LH preparations were noted, it is concluded that an absolute “species specificity” as described for the actionof growth hormone in primates is not attributable to theinterstitial cell stimulating activity of luteinizing hormone.
