Abstract
Given an irreducible unitary representation of a noncompact group, what happens if one tries to diagonalize one of the noncompact generators? We study some aspects of this question on an example, chosen to be a representation of the discrete series with j = −½ of the special real linear group in two dimensions. Keywords
