Abstract
A recent and new theoretical approach for the optical and dc conductivity is applied to magnetite. It is based on a small-polaron (SP) model which takes into account also the polaronic short-range order. The good agreement between the theoretical fit and our new and thorough optical measurements supports the idea of superposition of SP band and hopping conductivity in magnetite. Keywords
