Abstract
Lygus hesperus Knight and the tarnished plant bug, L. Lincolaris (Palisot de Beauvois), were successfully reared from egg to adult on artificial diets containing alfalfa meal and other nutrients. Adults laid eggs when they were fed these diet. Also, nymphs were reared and adults laid eggs on a diet without plant extracts. The bugs were fed liquid diets through Parafilm® membranes, and adults were induced to oviposit in devices constructed for that purpose. Diets and methods are described in detail. Development of all stages on artificial diets was similar to that on green beans; however, diet-fed adults had a shorter lifespan. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
