Abstract
Oxides were synthesized by reducing sodium permanganate with sodium iodide in aqueous solutions followed by firing at . The sample fired at had a layer structure, whereas those fired at had a tunnel structure. Ion‐ exchange and sodium‐extraction reactions of gave, respectively, and maintaining the layer or tunnel structures. The ion‐exchanged samples exhibited better electrochemical properties than the sodium‐extracted samples. The layered obtained by the ion‐exchange reaction exhibited an initial capacity of about at , and the tunnel obtained by the ion‐exchange reaction exhibited an initial capacity of about at . ©1999 The Electrochemical Society
