OPERATIVELY TREATED PATIENTS WITH LUMBAGO-SCIATICA, WITHOUT DEMONSTRABLE HERNIATION OF THE DISK

Abstract
The prognosis has been examined in a group of patients operated on for suspected herniation of the lumbar disk, but in whom the condition was not revealed. The material includes 40 cases, in the same period a total of 800 cases were operated on for herniation of the lumbar disk, with removal of disk material. In 1/4 of the cases, small protrusions were found without rupture of the annulus. One of the major reasons for the relatively poor prognosis in the group is that a number of them suffered from local pathological lesions which were poorly amenable to surgery.
