Abstract
The normal range of the basal O2 intake and CO2 output was detd. for each of 3 subjects. A modification of the Douglas bag technique was used. Recovery after exercise was taken to be complete when the O2 intake and CO2 output returned within and stayed within these limits. After 30-45 sec. of standing running at top speed 1 subject showed complete recovery in less than 11/2 hrs.; the other 2 subjects showed a slight but prolonged increase in O2 consumption after exercise. Apart from this increase recovery was complete in these subjects in 11/2 hrs. The R. Q. of the excess metabolism due to strenuous exercise of short duration exceeded 1 in these expts. This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
