Abstract
The absorption spectrum of diatomic argon in the 780–1080 Å region has been re-analysed using the Rydberg-Klein-Rees method. The results of this study together with an analysis of the equilibrium and transport properties of gaseous argon have been used to establish a potential energy function which is consistent with all the available data. The dissociation energy of the argon dimer is estimated at some 7 per cent greater than that indicated in previous analyses of the spectroscopic data. Keywords
