Abstract
Water stress equivalent to 4.9, 9.8 and 14.7 atm. of osmotic pressure imposed by solutions of mannitol reduced fresh and dry weight changes of corn (Zea mays) seedlings grown for 6 days in darkness. Protein and nucleotide contents were reduced similarly to weight changes. Ribonucleic acid (RNA) increased. Qualitative analyses indicated that water stress treatments altered the concentration of certain N bases in the acid-soluble-nucleotide fraction and the ratio of bases in the RNA extracted with HClO4.This publication has 16 references indexed in Scilit:
