40-350 Micron Emission from NGC 2023

Abstract
40–350 μm photometric measurement of the reflection nebula and molecular cloud NGC 2023 is reported. Absorption by dust of ultraviolet photons from the B star which illuminates the reflection nebula is capable of powering the far-infrared emission. Comparison of this source with OMC2 and the KL nebula suggests that the dust temperature is roughly proportional to the gas temperature ( = CO brightness temperature) for ice, silicate or graphite grains. If the dust and gas temperatures are equal and the grains are made of ice the gas to dust ratios in all three objects are close to the value in the interstellar medium.
