Experimental Chronic Osteomyelitis in Maxillae of Rabbits

Abstract
Experimental osteomyelitis of long bones was produced in animals by direct implantation and intravenous injection of Staphylococcus aureus. The latter route never produced jaw lesions. By a modified technic, S. aureus suspensions were implanted in the cancellous portion of the maxillae of rabbits. Eight of 9 animals developed chronic osteomyelitis at the site.
