The Preparation and Carbon-13 Nmr Study of the Aluminium Bromide/Aromatics Complexes

Abstract
A convenient method is described for the preparation and direct concentration determination of the moisture-free aluminium bromide/aromatics mixture in a relative large quantity (ca. 20 g) within the solubility limits. Carbon-13 chemical shift and spin-lattice relaxation data of aluminium bromide/m-xylene and aluminium bromjde/pseudocumene are presented to gain some insight into the nature of the reactions of this type. It is found that aluminium bromide is most likely arranged above or/and below the plane of the aromatic nucleus.
