Abstract
An exact solution of the equations of motion of a two-phase fluid is given which describes separation in a centrifugal force field. A retrograde rotation is always produced in the settling process, which is characterized by propagating kinematic shocks and a time-dependent volume fraction of the mixture. Keywords
