Radioprotective Efficacy of Cysteamine with the Mitotic Index of Rat Bone Marrow Cells as Reference System

Abstract

The protective efficacy of cysteamine (150mg/kg bodyweight) was tested on rat marrow cells in vivo (using mitotic index as a biologic criterion) during a period from 5 minutes to 30 days after 800 r irradiation. Maximum stable protective efficacy (85-92% of that of the normal controls) was observed between the 15th and 30th days.
