Abstract
Apparent recovery in two out of three cases of thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura was attributed to massive treatment with corticotropin and prednisolone. The role of splenectomy, performed in each case, was not so clear. The death of one patient, treated only with ACTH, was associated with extensive adrenal involvement. The essential clinical and laboratory findings characteristic of this disease were illustrated in these cases. The urgency of early diagnosis was stressed because the usual, rapid deterioration of the condition of a patient with acute thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura apparently was prevented by the intensive hormonal therapy described. Keywords
