Abstract
Immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a simple technique with broad applications in diagnostic pathology, and it is being employed by more and more pathologists in community practice. Key elements of a successful IHC laboratory in this setting are discussed with particular emphasis on quality control measures. Technical considerations of the method are detailed as applied to paraffin sections, cryostat sections, blood and bone marrow smears, and cytologic specimens. Finally, cardinal rules of diagnostic IHC are presented.
