Abstract
The sync-pumped fiber Raman soliton ring laser is analyzed. The dependence of pulse width on the gain and gain saturation and of the carrier frequency on the length of the ring is determined. The frequency shift caused by the noninstantaneous response of the nonlinear medium is determined, and it is found that bandwidth limiting is necessary to contain it. Limits on achievable pulse width are given. Keywords
