High-Intensity Compton Scattering and the Origin of the Wavelength Shift Within the Framework of a Semiclassical Treatment

Abstract
Using group-theoretical arguments, it is shown that the nonlinear wavelength shift predicted by Goldman and by Brown and Kibble in high-intensity Compton scattering comes about from the particular symmetry properties of the circularly polarized plane wave used to describe the laser beam.Keywords
