Abstract
Germlings of P. irregulare grow best at .apprx. 35.permill., but their salinity optimum and tolerance vary with temperature. Although germlings have a wide range of salinity tolerance, sporangia are not produced in salinities of < 25.permill.. The best growth occurs at 15.degree. C; very poor growth and no reproduction occur at 20.degree. C and 5.degree. C. Most germlings die after prolonged exposure to 20.degree. C, but a short exposure to 20-28.degree. C does not inhibit zoospore ge-mination. Germlings are light saturated at less than 150 ft-c of light and they are tolerant to prolonged periods of total darkness (i.e., 2 mo.). Young sporelings are very sensitive to desiccation, particularly under direct sunlight.
