Abstract
Somatic nuclear division was studied in Penicillium expansum. It was found that the chromosome number was either n=4 + 1 DNA containing centriole, or n=5. Prior to division a V-shaped nuclear configuration, which consists of 5 Feulgen-positive bodies develops which subsequently yields a nuclear filament of 5 bodies which splits length-wise aided by cytoplasmic streaming. Separation of the daughter fila-ments may initiate at the 3rd stainable body of the filament yielding a ring which consists of 8-10 stainable bodies. The ring configuration breaks and gives rise to 2 daughter filaments each comprising 5 chromatin bodies. No spindles'' were seen. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
