Abstract
Effects of intravenous administration of 1 mg/kg reserpine were studied in a group of monkeys made chronically epileptic by alumina cream application to a cerebral hemisphere. Behavior 2 hours after injection was featured by reduced aggressiveness, tameness, relaxation, sialorrhea, tremulousness and lethargy. Eeg usually showed little change attributable to reserpine, although increased 5-8/ second waves of moderate amplitude were sometimes noted in lethargic phases. At the height of the reserpine effect motor seizures were more difficult to elicit by the stick prodding technique, whereas typical focal epileptic attacks could still be readily precipitated by small doses of pentamethylenetetrazole (16 mg/kg or less). Keywords
