Abstract
Mouse or guinea pig embryonic tissue placed in the mouth of a trocar impregnated with methylcholanthrene crystals was inoculated subcut. and otherwise into adult animals of the same and of different strains. Organs from C3H embryos grew as readily in C57 black or Bagg albino mice as in the parent strain. Many embryonic tissues were employed with comparable results. Embryonic tissues underwent cancerous modifications within 35 days and adult tissues within 90-200 days. Carcinoma of the glandular part of the stomach and of the intestine was induced by applying chemicals to embryonic transplants. Carcinomas in sub-cut, regions were derived from the embryonic transplant, but the origin of sarcomas was obscure. The method produced carcinomas in a variety of internal organs in a relatively short time.
