THE SMILING RESPONSE TO THE HUMAN FACE. I

Abstract
Several methods of quantifying the smiling response of infants are presented and compared, with latency of smiling found to be the most useful. Exhaustibility of the smiling response on repeated successive presentations of the eliciting stimulus, as reported by others, does not occur in this sample when the variable stimulus movement and distractability of the infant from various sources are controlled.
