Abstract
Discusses the reaction formation of the anal zone. The sexual constitution of certain individuals brings about an enhanced erogenous significance of the anal zone. Describes the case of a 44 yr old divorced male merchant. The extreme neatness, orderliness and reliability in the patient was a reaction formation against the interest in the not neat or dirty, which is not a part of the body. The triad qualities described above are not found in homosexual pederasts. Two other cases have also been described. The analyses of the 3 cases corroborated Freud's formula fully, that the permanent distinguishing traits of a person were either unchanged continuations of the original impulses, sublimations of the same, or reactions formed against them.
