A Simplified Method for the Cytologic Study of Body Fluids

Abstract
The conventional methods of concentrating the cells in body fluids, by centrifugation or Millipore filtration, often damage the cells and render their morphologic appraisal very difficult. The sedimentation method described in this report allows the cells to settle gently on the slide, preserves their histologic details, and yields most satisfactory results in the cytologic examinations of cerebrospinal, peritoneal, and pleural fluids, urine, and synovial fluid. The method is simple and the equipment can be easily improvised.
