Abstract
Approximation of an ideal infinite dimensional compensator for an infinite dimensional system is discussed. Two approaches are considered; one is to design a compensator for a finite dimensional model of the system, and the other approach, which is stressed here, is to truncate an infinite dimensional ARMA representation of the ideal compensator. Performance of the closed-loop system is discussed, and an example from control of flexible structures is presented.Keywords
