Abstract
The reliability and validity coefficients were computed for a 60-item four-choice test of English vocabulary in which examinees were asked to mark on a three-level scale the degree of confidence with which they answered each item. It was found that alpha coefficient increased with the confidence in the answers, while the validity coefficient was highest when partial knowledge was used in the answering process. This finding and its implications are discussed. Keywords
