Mechanism of Biological Nitrogen Fixation

Abstract
Expts. with 3 spp. of Azotobacter indicate that H acts as a specific inhibitor of the fixation reaction in these spp. Since the symbiotic N fixation system of red clover responds to H in the atmosphere in the same way, it is concluded that the mechanism of N fixation by the symbiotic system is similar to that of the fixation system of the free-living Azotobacter.
