Abstract
It is shown that a probability closely related to that used for the grand canonical ensemble provides an alternative to the conventional technique for quenched impurity systems. Although the two methods are equivalent averages, the grand ensemble approach offers certain computational advantages in terms of reference-Hamiltonian formulations. The ideas are illustrated by generalizing a random model recently proposed by Thorpe and Beeman (1976). The connection between the model and a quenched Ising system is illuminated. Keywords
