Abstract
A simple 1-step procedure is described for the demonstration of complement [C] receptor [human] lymphocytes (CRL), with C-coated bacteria [Salmonella, Escherichia coli] (BC) used as indicator particles. With this assay the percentage of CRL in normal peripheral blood ranged between 6 and 2 (mean 11%). In a separately performed combined assay for lymphocytes with membrane-bound immunoglobulins (M-Ig) and lymphocytes, which form rosettes with BC (BC-RFC), 4 different fractions of lymphocytes could be detected: (M-Ig+.sbd.BC+, M-Ig+.sbd.BC-, M-Ig-.sbd.BC+,M-Ig-.sbd.BC-). The subpopulation of lymphocytes with C receptor sites probably overlaps with, but is not totally identical with, the lymphocyte subpopulation bearing Ig on the surface.
