Abstract
The influence of various factors when testing for As and P with either ascorbic acid or aminonaphtholsulfonic acid as the reducing agent was studied. Ascorbic acid and other reagents must be freshly prepared; time, temp., and calibration curves are important. Merck''s or Hoffmann-LaRoche''s commercial vit. C preparations are suitable for the determination. The colorimetric estimation of P in the presence of As is discussed. It is concluded that ascorbic acid may be substituted for aminonaphtholsulfonic acid and bisulfite as the reducing agent in the determination of P. The reaction may also be applicable to the determination of ascorbic acid.
