Abstract
In a series of 35 patients with congestive heart failure (CHF), triamterene demonstrated a significant natriuretic and diuretic property. In combination with hydrochlorothia-zide, natriuresis was markedly potentiated without K wasting, and natriuresis occurred even though urinary excretion of Na was previously very small. The drug also potentiated the natriuretic effects of spiro-nolactone. Combined with other diuretics, triamterene was very effec -tive in the long-term management of CHF. No significant side effects were observed. Keywords
