Onset of theory of mind: Methodological considerations

Abstract
Two studies are presented which used more “true to life” theory of mind tasks. The first studied false belief in 3‐4 year olds, using actors rather than dolls and activity involving the children. The second studied 2nd order attribution in 4#fr1/2> year olds using a televised presentation. In both studies modification of standard paradigms produced evidence of earlier understanding of mental states in young children.
