Abstract
The nucleation field for rare‐earth‐Co5 particles is shown to be directly related to variations in the domain wall energy associated with an oxide layer at the particle's surface. A physical model based on the experimental results for Nd1−x Smx Co5 single crystals can quantitatively describe the magnetization reversal. Keywords
