Generalized Self-similar Flows

Abstract
A class of exact solutions is found for the equations of unsteady two-dimensional gas dynamics. The assumption that the density is a function only of the flow speed leads to a formulation in terms of two variables. The radially self-symmetric flows and simple wave flows are special cases. It is shown how such two-parameter flows may be constructed behind expansion waves and shocks.
